Of the 7,500 10th Anniversary T/As produced, this particular car is one of the 1,817 equipped with the Pontiac 220-hp 400-cu.in. V-8 engine and four-speed manual transmission. the V-8 “runs cool in the summer and the transmission shifts well.” For 1979, Pontiac 400 V-8/four-speed T/As and Formulas were fitted with a 3.23:1-geared Safe-T-Track rear axle. Platinum lower-body and Gray upper-body paint, silver-glass T-tops, stripes, and graphics that included a “Super Bird” with a wingspan that flowed onto the fenders, enhanced the appearance of the 10th Anniversary Trans Am. The “original paint still shines, but has a couple of flaws, the decals rate a 9.5 out of 10, there’s no rust, the seals don’t leak, and the lighting works.” Special silver upholstery with leather seating surfaces and embroidered birds on the door panels and the center of the rear seat was unique to the 10th Anniversary T/A, and the seller states that this interior is original and he rates it at a “9 out of 10,” with a couple light wear marks on the driver’s seat. The dash pad is a “10 out of 10.” The steering wheel was also wrapped in leather, the Rally gauges were illuminated in red, and a Digital ETR AM/FM stereo with integrated 8-track was included. They all work, as does the A/C, heat, and power windows and door locks. A glance at the included build sheet reveals several other niceties that came with this model. Pontiac’s WS6 suspension made the Trans Am a highly impressive handler in its day, and the included four-wheel disc brakes shortened stops. The chassis is in good condition and the car’s ride, handling, and steering are “awesome.” The BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires that are mounted on 10th Anniversary T/A-specific aluminum wheels retain 90 percent of their tread, but are “aged,”. New rear calipers and a master cylinder were installed to restore proper braking, and the original parts were saved to go with the sale.
