The original four-cylinder Alpine engine was replaced with a Ford 260-cu.in. small-block V-8, which is what the Sunbeam factory did when they made authentic Tigers. This engine was rebuilt and modified with 1966 Mustang cylinder heads, an aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold, a 500-cfm carburetor, and a competition camshaft. A larger aluminum radiator with a flex fan was installed. The gas tank was cleaned and coated. The four-speed manual transmission is an HEH-E unit that is in good working order. cold starts are easy and smoke-free, and the engine and transmission are drip-free. The car was painted black in 2017, and black was the original color. This repaint was done with urethane paint, but the car wasn’t disassembled before painting. Both rocker panels were replaced and there is some minimal corrosion visible under the car. The seats, door panels, and rear seat cover were re-dyed during the restoration. The front seats are in good condition, with some visible wear on the upper stitching. The rear seat cover is in poor condition, with some tears. the gauges all seem to work and the tachometer was converted to work properly with the V-8 engine. Rack-and-pinion steering was installed during the restoration. The shocks, bushings, and brakes are all in good working order. The tires have less than 1000 miles on them and they are mounted on new 15-inch Rota eight-spoke alloy wheels that provide the “correct period look.”
