The “A” in the VIN indicates this Mustang was originally equipped with a four-barrel 289-cu.in. V-8 engine rated at 225 horsepower, which was one of the two engines available with the GT package. idles and runs well, with no smoke on cold starts. It is fitted with an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, along with aftermarket finned valve covers and air cleaner. There is some reported minor seepage at the rear main seal, but the four-speed manual transmission is dry and is said to shift smoothly. There is also some weeping at the rear axle, which, according to the “A” in the axle code position of the body tag has a 3.00:1 ratio. The engine compartment shows some wear in the restoration, including some paint flaking off the radiator. The radiator itself has been fitted with an aftermarket overflow tank.
