In 1980, a Rochester, New York company named Victor Replicars of America began producing a fiberglassed body replica of the MG TF, using an original 1955 MG TF to form the molds. The Victor TF was designed to use a MGB engine, suspension and drivetrain. The Victor TF's were built using a custom frame designed to accommodate the MGB 1800cc engine but otherwise all body parts are interchangeable with the original MG TF including fenders, doors, windscreen, hood, side curtains, interior panels, seats, etc. Factory specifications show the weight of the completed TF 1800 to be 1650 pounds (300 pounds less than the original TF) with a top speed of 95mph. The subject TF was originally purchased as a kit. The donor car was reputedly a late rubber bumper MGB. The known history begins in Florida, then to Wisconsin and back to Florida with my purchase. When I purchased the car it was only partially assembled and was basically a rolling chassis with an engine which reportedly had been rebuilt but never hooked up or started. (An inspection of the cylinder walls revealed clean bores and it showed good compression.). The car has an overdrive transmission, oil cooler and electric radiator fan. The build included, but was not limited to, the following: body, fenders, etc. were all disassembled for priming and painting; the front fenders, engine side panels and bonnet are all original TF steel components; all suspension parts and bushings were replaced and the Armstrong shocks rebuilt; carbs were rebuilt; a new rack and pinion steering assembly installed; new 15 inch wire wheels and tires; chrome components were replaced as necessary; the car was rewired as necessary, including new switches, relays, etc.; new rubber components installed; custom dash; x-mat installed on floor and firewall surfaces; new carpeting; new leather seat upholstery; new interior side panel; new cloth hood and side curtains; and many other improvements made with most receipts for the parts I purchased. The car has a Florida DMV assigned VIN and is titled as a 1955 MG. Mileage since assembly is less than 300 miles.
