Description

The 1955 Chevrolet Cameo pickup was the top-of-the-line Chevy truck model from 1955 to 1958 and the precursor of the slab-sided Fleetside beds that debuted in 1958. Fleetside beds were full width with the wheelwells inside the bed. Cameo beds appeared to be full width, but they were actually stepside beds with fiberglass outer fenders and unique taillights and rear bumpers. This first-year 1955 Chevrolet Cameo half-ton pickup received a frame-off restoration and modernization by a previous owner. It has a 350-crate engine with a three-speed automatic transmission. The interior has been upgraded with a newer bench seat. The engine in this Cameo is a Chevrolet 350-cu.in. V-8 crate motor with approximately 5,000 miles on it. An aluminum intake manifold, four-barrel carburetor with an electric choke, and tubular exhaust headers. the engine starts up “immediately” and only leaks a little around the oil pan. The newer Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 three-speed automatic transmission shifts “as intended,”. All original 1955 Cameo pickups were painted Bombay Ivory with Commercial Red on the rear cab posts, but this modified 1955 Cameo is now bright red. rust-free. There are some minor scratches and stone chips. The fiberglass tailgate cover over a traditional steel tailgate has Speedy Gonzales cartoon artwork. Original, hidden retractable cables suspend the tailgate. The factory cab-mounted gas tank was moved under the bed with access behind the taillight, and the original hole was filled. The center section of the rear bumper originally opened for spare tire access, but now the bumper has a hidden receiver hitch behind the license plate. Solid maple covers the bed floor. all the glass, seals, and lighting as in “very good” condition.
